Wednesday’s Football

Not such a great night for English clubs. The logical place is to start out my laughing at the dirty Scousers. HA HA HA. The scene of their greatest triumph under Benitez less than three years ago and now the scene of the worst Liverpool performance in history. Well the worst was probably losing 6-3 to the Gooners in the League Cup last season, but that’s not the point.

It now looks as though the season is crumbling for the Spaniard and his team. Not good enough to win the Premier League, European success has kept the managers job. Now they have lost that- whilst Utd are spanking the Ukrainians 4-2. I am so glad I am not Scouser. How long has Benitez got his job? More time than Martin Jol but if their form keeps slipping as it is, probably not too much longer. A 2-1 loss to Besiktas will not be good enough for many of the clubs fans. I just hope they finish in the UEFA cup and then get beaten by Everton in the final. That really would make my day.

Keeping up in the “Crazy Manager Competition,” Benitez for some reason decided to play Pennant and left him on for most the match. If he ain’t good enough for Arsene, then why is he good enough for Rafa? I thought these two sides are trying to their best to finish second. In addition, it appears Stevie G wasn’t passionate enough- this can be the only explanation for him playing the full 90.

Chelsea were the only British team to get any points, let alone win last night. Drogba seems to love the club although his mood changes every day, it is often hard to tell what he is thinking. Gifted both goals in their 2-0 win. This is no surprise for Chelsea but Schalke but have let their whole country down. With a more efficient performance the minnows would probably have sneaked a win.

In Scotland, Celtic went about letting their country down, with a 1-0 loss against Benfica. Although not necessarily a bad result, it must still have let down their fans. Not the performance but now Rangers have the clear bragging rights in Glasgow after a 3-0 old firm win and a draw against the second best team in the world. Not a great week for Celtic.

Other big football news of the day is that Megson looks like he will get the Bolton job which leads me to two questions:
1] why join a club and then feck off a month later. He must have been spending too much time with Drogba.
2] why the hell do Bolton want him anyway. He doesn’t exactly have the best C.V in the world. His recent acheivments? Getting Forest relegated and winning 1 out of 7 league games for Leicester. Not exactly the new Mournhio is he?
